Kurzbio

Gian-Andri Töndury arbeitet hauptsächlich in Performances, am liebsten in Kollaborationen. Ihn beschäftigt Theorie in einem weit gefassten Sinn. Er reflektiert über Theorie, Mythologie, Ideologie und Sprache als Elemente politischer Prozesse. Auf ein komplettes Philosophiestudium (Promotion 2007) und einige wissenschaftliche Anstrengungen in diesem Bereich, folgte ab 2009 ein Kunststudium an der HKB Bern (BA 2012) und der ZHdK Zürich (MA 2016). 2013 erhielt er einen Anerkennungspreis für Fotografie und 2015 ein Reisestipendium des Kantons Bern.



A programmatic description of past and future work

Performing and reflecting intellectuality: The artworks mimic the intellectual life, work and perspective; the sensuous aspects of idealised intellectual work and life, its vision of animated, but fair exchanges with others, its vision of reflectiveness, its hoped for potential for emancipation from unfree social conditions, its urge to understand, to see behind appearances, to see into or sense the unknown; the problematic relationship between intellectuals and their imagined counterparts, the masses , the uneducated etc., the dangers of over-systematisation and abstractness, the disregard for particularity in individuals, cultures and objects, its universalism, its hubris, its remoteness, its disregard for its own standpoint; the uneasy voice and standpoint from which the intellectual speaks to her fellow citizens. Simultaneous positive endorsements and aestheticizations and negative criticisms of the intellectual perspective perform double binds. Some of the language, attitudes, institutions and devices found in the western intellectual culture of the last couple of centuries till now (including natural, social and political science, philosophy and conceptual art) that are mirrored and misused in these works. They are about intellectual culture in troubled times.
